Calvary Chapel's Purpose, Vision, and Values

Our Purpose

Our purpose is the Biblical role of the church a description of what the church is called by God to do.

The purpose of Calvary Chapel, Inc.,
is to teach believers to know and to love God more,
while together we reach and disciple the lost to Jesus Christ.

Our Core Values

  • We value the clear teaching and application of Scripture. The Bible is God's inspired Word, the authoritative and trustworthy rule of faith and practice for all Christians. The Bible is both timeless and timely, relevant to the common needs of all people at all times and to the specific problems of contemporary living. Therefore we are committed to equipping Christians, through the preaching and teaching of God's Word to follow Christ in every sphere of life. We will strive to maintain a balance between hearing the Word and doing what it instructs.
  • We value prayer. The Christian life is a spiritual battle that needs to be constantly reinforced through prayer. Therefore we will support our ministries and members through personal prayer, in small groups and corporate prayer.
  • We value people. Every individual is a unique creation of God, eternally valuable to Him. We commit ourselves to love each person with whom we come in contact. We will intentionally make it a part of our strategic planning to pursue the lost no matter where they are, whether across the street or across the world.. We will accept people where they are, attempt to build relationships with them and challenge them in love to become everything God wants them to be.
  • We value relevance. In today's rapidly changing world, forms and methods must be continually evaluated, and if necessary, altered to fit new conditions. While proven techniques should not be discarded lightly, we encourage flexibility and adaptability. Therefore, we will seek to be culturally relevant while remaining doctrinally pure. We are more concerned with effectiveness in ministry than adherence to tradition.
  • We value lay-ministry. God has made each one of us a minister of His to an ever-widening circle of influence, home, church, neighborhood and the world. Scripture teaches that the church should operate as a unified community of servants being equipped and empowered to experience and express their spiritual gifts. Therefore, the primary responsibility of the pastors in the local church is one of “equipping” God's people for the ministry. Thus the ministry of Calvary Chapel will be placed as much as possible in the hands of non-vocational workers.
  • We value excellence. The God of our salvation deserves the best we have to offer. When ministry is carried out to the best of our ability it reflects positively on our Savior and it inspires people. Therefore, in our ministries and activities we will do our best with the time, resources and people available to us.
  • We value purpose-driven decisions. It is imperative that we use the resources that the Lord has blessed us with wisely and focus our energies effectively. Therefore, every activity and decision will be derived from our purpose statement.

Our Vision

  • We envision a place where the people of our area find acceptance, hope, truth and encouragement; a place where people are welcomed as they are, yet helped to become what God wants them to be.
  • We envision a church with a positive reputation in our surrounding community; a church that reaches out in loving relevant ways, bringing others into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • We envision a diverse group of believers and seekers who gather together in services of creative, inspiring and authentic celebration and worship where people can learn the timeless truth about God and His Word in a way that is meaningful to their lives.
  • We envision a place where new believers are nurtured and discipled so that they can grow in their faith, mature in Christ and move to deeper levels of commitment and involvement.
  • We envision a network of smaller fellowships which address the needs of people in many life situations and at all levels of spiritual maturity; communities where encouragement, discipleship and personal development will take place.
  • We envision a core group of lay-leaders who are equipped and energized to lead a wide variety of ministries serving people both inside and outside of our fellowship.
  • We envision a pastoral staff who will equip our members to carry out the ministry of the church by providing training, encouragement and leadership.
  • We envision adequate property and facilities which are well-maintained as a testimony to our community and attractive to those seeking a church home. Which can be adapted and expanded to accommodate the needs of our growing church.
  • We envision a church with highly committed members who are actively praying for, supporting and serving in the church's ministries, with the common bond of one Savior, Jesus Christ, and the common cause of service to Him.
  • We envision a church that continues to understand God's love for all people and reaches beyond our local community to take the message of His love to the world; a church with a clear awareness of its role in God's redemptive plan for the world.
  • We envision being a church that is committed to fulfilling its Biblical purpose by God's grace in God's strength and for God's glory.
